Our association I.M.A.A. which stands for Independent Martial Arts Association started in the early 80's by Grandmaster Hee il Cho, a Korean master who moved to America in the 1960's to introduce the martial arts to the masses not from the Orient. Tae Kwon-Do in one form or another has existed for many centuries, being used and refined for one purpose, combat. It's true inner strength and morals were defined by a youth group called the Hwarang Do, which brought principles to the Korean way of the martial arts. Tae Kwon-Do's modern day father was General Choi who put together the patterns or Kata's, and set the modern curriculum into it's present state and who promoted the grandmaster's of today. Our head instructor in this country is Mr Kevin Summers 5th dan black belt is the head instructor at the Malvern School of Tae Kwon-Do. He deals with all the admin and technical matters as well as teaching a large class twice a week, and he is a true inspiration and a pleasure to learn from. One of the underlying philosophies within the martial arts is that, no matter what you can do or have achieved, you must stay humble and continue to train to better yourself and enrich your knowledge to become a more complete individual in body and mind. |
